This is akin to old school overhead projectors however instead of using a transparency it allows you to use any object. So useful!

My wife needed a new camera for her classroom. The prior Epson document camera was well over a decade old. After daily use it was having some issues.We saw this camera in the Amazon Warehouse section. It had everything we were looking for. The resolution and features were desirable. The price was attractive, but we had reservations about a warehouse item. These were unfounded as it arrived sealed in the original packaging. It was in mint condition!Unfortunately, there is no noticeable change in picture resolution since the school's projector is now a bottleneck. However, collor accuracy and contrast are noticeablly better. It has been reliable. For her, the ability to use it as a standalone device was important. If she is out, a sub doesn't need her laptop or special software to use it.

The model 30 document camera is the highest performance one in the series from Epson. I find that the image quality is fair when you’re viewing a document 1 foot away, such as a piece of paper that you’re writing on or magazine article. However, the image quality is poor if you rotate the lens and try to take a screenshot or a video of a blackboard or dry erase board . I’ve been on the phone at least three times with Epson trying to do some troubleshooting with no success. They’re very slow to respond. I could not recommend this product.

The Epson DC-30 is a good choice for me to do extensive copy work of a music library. Once the lens is positioned and the paper centered under the lens, I can see the image on my PC monitor and can then capture the image either by pressing a button on the unit or with the remote control. It then records the image on a flash drive which I purchased and plugged into the side of the Epson document camera. These may be used more in classroom situations to connect to a projector but it's very useful for still photos as well.

I LOVE my doc cam in my classroom!! I bought this a year and a half ago because I changed school board and my new board doesn’t provide these to any classroom (so there aren’t any anywhere). I was used to using a doc cam everyday and took a chance on this one and I love it. I can’t think of any drawbacks, nothing major at least. Compared to the one I had at my old school, it’s a bit wobbly but I’m just so glad to have one. I found it relatively affordable. It is easy to use, it can zoom in and zoom out. It comes with the connector cords (as long as your projector is pretty new). It’s been a great purchase!

I wouldn’t pay the extra $300 for the good model so I’m stuck with this one.

This camera will do a basic job as advertised, but the extra money for the next model up will be well worth the expense. This version is stumbly, awkward to use and does not record sessions very well or at all. Would not recommend it for a serious home office or tele-teaching environment. Buy the better one.

We purchased the DC-21 primarily to use as a document scanner while doing research in university libraries. We found that the image quality (for PDFs) is very poor - fuzzy at best, problems with glare, auto-focus often just a bit off the mark - manual adjustment required. Doubtless it is great for its other intended uses such as classroom projection, but other document cameras that don't handle those tasks as well have better scan-to-file capabilities and editing/cropping features.
