The galvanized steel is impressively durable; after a month outside in the rain unfilled, there is no sign of rust. I picked up this two pack of the 8x4x1 galvanized raised beds to expand on a setup I already had in my yard. About ten years ago, I built several cedar beds myself, and after a decade of Ohio weather, they finally reached the end of their life. I replaced a few of them earlier with metal beds from another brand, and these Foxlang beds ended up being a perfect visual and functional match.The size is exactly what I wanted. Eight by four feet with a full twelve inches of depth gives plenty of room for vegetables, herbs, and anything with deeper roots. The open bottom design was one of the reasons I moved away from wood in the first place. Drainage is better, and roots can keep going down into native soil instead of hitting a hard stop.Assembly was straightforward and similar to the other metal beds I already own. Nothing felt flimsy during setup, and once the panels were bolted together, the structure felt solid. I do recommend loosely assembling everything first and then tightening it all down once it is square. The included hardware and gloves were a nice touch and made the process smoother.What impressed me most was how well these matched my existing beds from a different manufacturer. The finish, shape, and overall look are nearly identical, so everything feels cohesive instead of looking like a patchwork of mismatched planters. That was a big win for me since these are in a very visible part of the yard.It is currently winter here in Ohio, so I have not been able to install or fill them yet, but based on my experience with similar galvanized beds, I have no concerns about durability. My existing metal beds have held up extremely well through rain, snow, and freeze thaw cycles without rusting or warping.If you are replacing old wooden beds or looking for something long lasting that requires less maintenance, these are an easy recommendation. This is my first official year of gardening, and up until now I was living that grow-bag life. They worked… until they didn’t. Handles snapping, tiny seam holes forming, and me side-eyeing my tomatoes like, “are you about to fall through the bottom?” So I decided it was time for something more permanent and less dramatic.Enter these galvanized raised garden beds.First off, the size is no joke. Each bed is 8x4 feet and a full 12 inches deep, which feels downright luxurious compared to fabric bags. I genuinely underestimated how much soil these would need. Spoiler alert: it took a lot. Between soil, fertilizer, and mulch, I went through almost 25 cubic feet to fill one bed! Once they’re filled though, they feel like a solid, long-term setup rather than a temporary solution.Assembly was mostly straightforward, but I won’t sugarcoat it. The rounded ends take a little patience and muscle. With my husband helping, we had both beds fully assembled in about an hour. Definitely wear the gloves they include. Those metal edges are not here to play games.Once assembled, the sturdiness really impressed me. The galvanized steel feels thick and stable, not flimsy or wobbly, even when filled to the top. Despite being metal, the beds aren’t outrageously heavy before filling, which made positioning them in the yard manageable.The open-bottom design is a big win.
